The Restoration of an Ancient Science
William Lilly "One of the last of the traditional Horary and Natal Astrologers"
Traditional astrology is a general reference to what astrology was prior to the end of the 17th century. Since then it has fallen from its traditional roots. Tropical astrology lost many of its vital techniques after the late 1600's. Astrologers such Ibn Izra, Mashalla, Bonatus, Ptolemey and many others in ancient times used many additional techniques, including the "essential dignities," a very critical strength indicator. Methods of Tropical Astrology prior to its fall in the early 1700's were very accurate, even without the usage of the now called 3 transcedentals (Pluto, Neptune and Uranus).
Today's modern astrology has much to offer, and now that computers calculate in seconds what used to take hours, it is more accessible than ever as an art. But modern astrologers might consider the benefits of incorporating the ancient traditional techniques which gave astrology its predictive powers, including Horary (divination), Electional (Selecting times), Mundane (world and weather/natural events) and Natal (birth charts) charts. Traditional astrology techniques offer the ability to give reliable answers in any given situation.
